Coober Pedy

 
Coober Pedy is an opal mining town in South Australia. I forgot the exact percentage, but around 80% of the world's opal comes from Coober Pedy. Because of its extreme temperatures (+50ºC on summer days and < 0ºC in winter nights) many of the homes are built underground.
